The Foundation does not have
a horse ready to be placed this fall. Applications will
open for the next Gypsy Angel on January 1, 2011.
Most of
our Gypsy Angels are donated by Gypsy horse breeders or
owners. If you have a Gypsy, or know of someone who has
a Gypsy they would consider donating to the Foundation,

Gypsy
Angel #4
Rushmore was
delivered to his new home, the J F Shea Center in San
Juan Capistrano, CA on Saturday, July 24, 2010. His
Foster mom Elaine Militello wrote this report on the
day:
Angel Baby #4 Rushmore's first
day at his new home, the Shea Center.
When we
pulled into the driveway at Shea Center, I could tell
that it was going to be a very pleasant experience.
People started flocking to the trailer crying, "Do you
have our Gypsy pony?" a question I was very happy to say
'yes' to. Because as soon as I unloaded him they were
saying "Oh, he's wonderful!" or " Look how pretty he
is!" I led him straight to his loving new owners and
immediately they began fondling him and showering my
mother and I with questions about him and the program,
which we were happy to answer. We met many people,
including the barn director, Kathy.
When I was able to access their round pen and
demonstrate Rushmore's training, they were amazed at how
far along he was. Then, we proceeded to bring him to his
stall. Their barn is amazing and I was thrilled to see
the cushy mats and shavings in his room ( for he loves
to lie down). Once he was settled in his cozy stall,
Kathy took us on a tour of the facility. It’s an
unbelievable place and I was happy that Rushmore gets to
spend his life with these people. Saying goodbye was the
hardest of all. After handing over his cookies and
hanging his bucket in his stall, Kathy and others
promised that he would get to keep his bucket and
cookies, so that made me feel much better. Then we gave
Rushmore a final hug and kiss and drove out to the sound
of him banging his bucket...
Overall, I thought the process went very smoothly. As
much as I will miss him, I think he will adore his new
home. Thank you for this wonderful experience.
Little Elaine
Elaine
is 12 years old. She and her mother volunteered to
foster Rushmore, and have done so for over a year! They
have cared for him, trained him, cleaned up after him,
paid his expenses, and walked the floor with him when he
was colicy.
The
Board of the Angel Foundation and AGHBA want the
Militello family to know how grateful we are for all
they have done for Rushmore. We cannot ever repay them
adequately. Rushmore is the wonderful horse he is
today because of their efforts.
Elaine
Militello will continue to follow Rushmore as his
Guardian Angel, making periodic visits to the Shea
Center to visit her boy.
The
Board of the Angel Foundation and AGHBA wish to thank
Jim and Diane Harris, owners of Happy Camp Cobs in
Moorpark, CA, for housing Rushmore on their Ranch,
mentoring Elaine as she worked with Rushmore, spending
countless hours working with both Rushmore and Elaine,
and transporting him to the Shea Center.
